On the studio as a private weather

The studio has its own atmosphere. You learn to dress for it. Some days the air is bright and you can paint quickly. Other days everything is held under glass, and the work is to wait for the light to come back.

I have stopped trying to make the studio a place of constant production. It is more like a garden — there are seasons.
